Practice Areas
In New York, the firm hires a majority of it paralegals to work in either the Corporate or Litigation departments. Specialized Senior Paralegals also work in Commercial Real Estate, Residential Real Estate, Entertainment, ERISA, Personal Representation and the China Practice Group.

Training
Entry-level paralegals are trained according to the practice group they have chosen. After completing orientation, paralegals are instructed in small seminars relating to aspects of their position. Litigation paralegals are trained in document production and trial work while corporate paralegals are trained in forming corporate entities and working on corporate closings.
All entry-level paralegals are also assigned a more senior paralegal mentor to help guide them in their first few months at Paul, Weiss. Mentors are excellent resources for entry-level paralegals as they help them navigate the firm and complete their first assignments.
Pro bono
Paul, Weiss is renowned for its strong pro bono program. In litigation, paralegals are offered a wide of variety of pro bono opportunities including death penalty and political asylum cases. In corporate, paralegals can work with minority small business owners in helping them form their companies.
Qualifications
Candidates for a paralegal position at Paul, Weiss must possess a four-year college degree and have a minimum 3.0 grade point average upon graduation. We seek motivated and detail-oriented people who have demonstrated through extra-curricular activities their leadership skills and an ability to work well in a team environment. Although many of the paralegals in the department are considering law school, there is also the potential for long-term career growth.

CORPORATE PARALEGAL JOB DESCRIPTION
General Summary
Assists lawyers with the preparation of documents necessary to comply with federal, state and local regulations in the conduct of business activities.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Works with lawyers to prepare all documents required to form corporations (both business and not-for-profit corporations) or partnership in any state.
- Creates and maintains corporate minute books.
- Obtains and completes requisite applications and corporate consents for business and not-for-profit corporations.
- Assists lawyers in the preparation of documentation for amendments, withdrawals, mergers and dissolutions of corporations or partnerships.
- Assists lawyers in preparation for, and during, deal closings; prepares closing binders and document sets for distribution.
- Completes franchise tax forms for lawyer review.
- Prepares draft responses to auditors' requests for information.
- Assists lawyers in preparation of SEC filings with regard to securities offerings and other dealings.
- Assists lawyers in the preparation of UCC filings and handles UCC filing search requests.

LITIGATION PARALEGAL JOB DESCRIPTION
General Summary
Assists lawyers in all phases of the litigation process, from the discovery period through the trial and onto post-trial findings and appeals.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Has responsibility for document organization and production, including number-stamping, redacting, photocopying and indexing of documents, checking copies, setting up and maintaining files which are organized chronologically, numerically and/or by subject matter, stripping files at the close of a case; acting as liaison with the File Department in instances in which sections of a case's files or the entire case's files are maintained by the File Department.
- Reviews and analyzes documents for production, under the direct guidance of an attorney; categorizes documents by subject; prepares a chronology of facts; makes charts; does calculations and statistical analyses; reviews transcripts for specific references.
- Conducts factual research: culls relevant information from a variety of resources, such as newspapers, magazines, libraries, case documents, trade associations, etc.
- Prepares for and attends depositions: gathers documents relevant to the deponent, organizes exhibits; when attending the deposition, takes notes, photocopies documents, handles exhibits, ensures the availability of necessary office supplies.
- Digests transcripts to summarize highlights of a proceeding.
- Prepares for and attends trial: organizes exhibits, files and all other supporting documents; makes arrangements for transporting and setting up files at court; at the trial, takes notes, handles exhibits, gathers any documents referred by either counsel, denotes which exhibits are marked and offered or just identified; interacts with witnesses.
- Assists with the preparation of motions: pulls relevant documents, proofreads, puts together exhibits and indexes documents for a table of contents.
- Assists with appeals: pulls and photocopies documents for a record on appeal and/or a joint appendix; indexes cases for a table of authorities; acts as liaison with the printers; when necessary, files documents at court.
- Prepares binders per witness, which contain interview memos, digests and relevant documents.
- Prepares binders for any subject matter.
- Retrieves documents as requested by lawyers.
- Conducts various document searches and factual research, including searches on computerized systems when applicable.
- Acts as liaison with various internal departments as well as with outside agencies (e.g., oversees the progress of documents through secretarial and duplicating departments, orders transcripts from reporting services, and fulfills requests from outside counsel and others).
