Cassius K. Sims
Associate
An associate in the Litigation Department, Cassius Sims focuses on intellectual property litigation, particularly patent litigation. Mr. Sims is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Mr. Sims has professional experience in many technologies, including electronics, storage devices, databases, networks, and software. He has worked for the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab, where he was published for his work creating a system to improve first responder awareness during mass emergencies and national disasters. He has also developed databases and web applications with an online application vendor.

Mr. Sims has represented major corporate clients in patent litigations involving computer software, pesticides, and semiconductor laser technology. His representative cases include the following:
  • EMG Technology, LLC v. Microsoft Corporation et al., 6:09-cv-367 (E.D. Tex.) (involving software)
  • Bluestone Innovations Texas v. Epistar Corp. et al., No. 2:10-cv-00171 (E.D. Tex.) (involving lasers)
  • BASF Agro B.V., Bayer S.A.S., and Merial Limited v. Makhteshim Agan of North America and Control Solutions, Inc., No. 10-cv-276 (M.D.N.C.) (involving pesticides)
  • BASF Agro B.V. and Bayer S.A.S. v. Cheminova, Inc., No. 10-cv-274 (M.D.N.C.) (involving pesticides)

Mr. Sims received a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Johns Hopkins University with General and Departmental Honors, where he was elected to Tau Beta Pi. He received his J.D., cum laude, from The Duke University School of Law, where he served as the chief executive editor of the Duke Law and Technology Review.
