Annual Review
Clients, Colleagues, Friends:
Transformation represents a change in fundamentals – the disruption of old systems and the emergence of new ones.
A year ago, it would have been impossible to imagine the systemic dislocations that rocked the global economy in 2008. The collapse of the credit markets. The restructuring of the financial services industry. The reshaping of our regulatory framework and markets. Given both the pace of this transformation and its unprecedented nature and scope, it is difficult to predict what 2009 holds in store.
At Paul, Weiss, we are proud to have provided sound counsel and outstanding service to our clients in times of economic crises, market collapses, downturns and upswings over the last century. At all times, but particularly in challenging and uncharted times, clients need their lawyers to master changing circumstances, to anticipate what lies around the corner and to safeguard their interests. And clients rightly should demand passion, tenacity, judgment and insight of their lawyers, working hand in hand to forge new and innovative strategies for success. So often in our history, we have seen monumental challenges yield unprecedented opportunities. And that is what we strive to achieve for our clients.
I am proud to present Transformation, a record of the accomplishments of our clients during 2008. We are privileged to have served our remarkable clients with the unwavering dedication and talent long associated with our firm’s name, and we look forward to continuing our collaborative efforts on behalf of our clients in the years to come. There is much to be accomplished – and we stand ready to do our part.
My best to you in 2009,

Brad S. Karp
