Description of Program and Relief

Unemployment Benefits

COVID-19-related unemployment insurance may be available for Louisiana workers. If work hours have been reduced, partial benefits could be available up to a maximum of $247 per week. For individuals whose employment has been impacted by COVID-19, both the work search requirements and the one-week waiting period are waived.

Dates Available

Effective March 15, 2020. Waiver of the work requirements and one-week waiting period are in effect from until the declared emergency ends.

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions

  1. Have your work hours been reduced due to COVID-19?

  2. Has your workplace closed temporarily and are you not being compensated?

  3. Have you been instructed not to go to work and are you not being paid while at home?

  4. If yes to any of these questions, you may be eligible for unemployment insurance.

  5. On April 7, 2020, Governor John Bel Edwards issued a proclamation suspending the requirement that claimants for unemployment insurance must register and search for work; however claimants still must report to an unemployment office for in-person meetings in the manner prescribed by the administrator. Claimants are also no longer required to wait one week before receiving benefits.

  6. Governor Edward’s proclamation was extended to May 15, 2020.
