Description of Program and Relief
Residential Rental Relief Program for Renters Affected by COVID-19
The Maine Housing Authority has established a program for residential renters who cannot afford to pay rent due to circumstances related to COVID-19. The program provides a one-time payment of up to $500, until the renter receives federal relief funds. The applicant to the program is the renter, and the benefit is paid to the landlord. If the landlord agrees to participate in the program, the landlord will postpone the balance of the rent payment, not forgive it. In addition, if the landlord agrees to participate in the program, the landlord agrees not to evict the renter for the duration of the month during which the relief payment is made.
