Description of Program and Relief
Unemployment Insurance Benefits (MD Code Ann., Lab. & Empl., Title 8)
Unemployed workers affected by COVID-19 may be eligible for benefits under already-existing Maryland unemployment insurance, which provides temporary income for workers who are unemployed through no fault of their own and who are either looking for new jobs, in approved training, or awaiting recall to employment.
If you are laid off temporarily due to a business shutdown as a result of COVID-19, or if you are currently quarantined under the instruction of a medical professional or government direction and your employer has instructed you not to work during quarantine and has not provided the option for telework, the Division of Unemployment Insurance recommends that you file a claim for unemployment insurance.
