Description of Program and Relief
Emergency Aid to the Elderly, Disabled and Children (EAEDC)
Emergency Aid to the Elderly, Disabled and Children (EAEDC) is a cash benefit for disabled adults, caretakers, and seniors who are waiting for Social Security benefits to begin. Although no specific guidance has issued with respect to COVID-19, affected persons may qualify if they meet eligibility requirements (below). The amount of cash benefit will depend on the applicant’s living arrangements, income, and assets.

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions
To qualify for EAEDC benefits, the applicant must live in Massachusetts, be a U.S. citizen or have a certain legal noncitizen status, and meet certain income and asset limits.
EAEDC may help an applicant who is (i) unable to work due to disability that will last at least 60 days, (ii) over 65 years old and waiting for Supplemental Security Income payments to begin, (iii) living with and taking care of a child who is not closely related to the applicant, (iv) participating in a Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission program, or (v) required in the home to take care of a disabled person who would otherwise have to move to an institution.
To qualify for TAFDC benefits, the family must live in Massachusetts, include a U.S. citizen or person with certain legal noncitizen status, and meet certain income and asset limits.
