A partner and co-chair of the Tax Department and member of the firm management, Jeffrey B. Samuels has a practice that covers a broad range of international and domestic transactions, including public and private M&A, the organization of and structuring of transactions for investment funds, partnership and joint venture transactions, and structuring of complex real estate transactions including the formation of REITs.
Representative clients include Citigroup, The Discovery Channel, Time Warner Cable, MacAndrews & Forbes, Zagat Survey and ADP. Investment fund clients include Trian Partners, Eton Park, Elliot Associates, Oaktree Capital, Clarion Capital, Trian Capital and Carlyle Group. Mr. Samuels is a member of the New York State and City Bar Associations. He was selected for the 2005-2011 editions of
Chambers USA,
the 2007-2011 editions of
Legal 500, the 2006-2012 editions of
The Best Lawyers in America and the 2011 edition of
Who's Who Legal. In the 2011 edition of
Chambers USA, Mr. Samuels was described as “superb at making the tax issues understood and relevant while integrating the tax element of a transaction so that the overall legal counsel is holistically provided.” He is also the author of the U.S. chapters of
The International Comparative Legal Guide to Corporate Tax 2008 and of
Real Estate Investment Trusts: A Global Analysis.
Mr. Samuels was on the staff of the
New York University Annual Survey of American Law and has a Ph.D. in English Literature from Columbia University, where he taught for several years prior to law school.
