Edward N. Costikyan
Of Counsel
Of counsel in the Litigation Department, Edward N. Costikyan has over four decades of experience at the firm.

With a diverse litigation practice, Mr. Costikyan has represented a wide number of corporations, government entities, public officials and individuals on a wide range of issues from nuclear power plant litigation to election litigation to libel litigation and many other matters.

Mr. Costikyan has been a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers since 1972, a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, a member and Chair of its Judiciary Committee and a member of its Executive Committee.

He has been involved in many community and civic activities, including serving as:
  • Special Advisor to the Mayor of the City of New York on school and borough governance (1994-1996);

  • Member, New York City Committee on Integrity in Government (1986) and Joint Committee on Judicial Administration (1985-92);

  • Chairman, New York State Task Force on New York City Jurisdiction and Structure (1971-72);

  • Vice Chairman, State Charter Revision for New York City (1972-77);

  • Democratic County Leader of the New York County (1962-64);

  • Democratic presidential elector (1964, 1988);

  • Trustee and Member, Executive Committee, and Chairman, Alumni Advisory Board of Columbia University (1981-93) and Trustee Emeritus (1993);

  • Director and Counsel, Municipal Art Society (1993-1998); and

  • Chairman, New York Foundation for Senior Citizens (1993-present).

Mr. Costikyan is the author of Behind Closed Doors: Politics in the Public Interest (1966) and How to Win Votes: The Politics of 1980 (1980), and is the co-author of Re-Structuring the Government of New York City (1972), New Strategies for Regional Cooperation (1973) and over 70 articles in legal, governmental and political subjects published in major newspapers and magazines.

Mr. Costikyan served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was discharged as a 1st Lt. of Infantry after service in the Pacific theatre.
