Claudia L. Hammerman
Partner
A partner in the Litigation Department, Claudia Hammerman has extensive experience in handling a broad range of litigation and regulatory matters with particular emphasis defending financial institutions and corporations in complex securities and commercial matters as well as representing financial institutions and other clients before the SEC, the Department of Justice and federal and state regulatory authorities.

 
Ms. Hammerman has served as litigation counsel on significant securities and commercial disputes for Citigroup, JPMorgan, Wachovia, McAndrews & Forbes and American Express. Among her recent significant matters, Ms. Hammerman:
  • Currently is representing Citigroup in all Enron-related regulatory proceedings and litigation (including securities class actions, opt-out actions, derivative actions and bankruptcy proceedings).
  • Represented JPMorgan in the litigations and regulatory matters arising out of its dealings with Delphi Corporation. Obtained dismissal of class action lawsuit brought by Delphi shareholders alleging 10b-5 liability on the basis of structured finance transactions the client had executed for Delphi.
  • Represented Citigroup in the litigations and regulatory proceedings arising out of its dealings with Dynegy. Obtained dismissal of class action lawsuit brought by Dynegy shareholders alleging 10b-5 violations on the basis of certain structured finance transactions the client had executed for Dynegy.
  • Currently representing Wachovia in securities class actions and other litigations arising out of auction rate securities.

Ms. Hammerman has taught several courses in Constitutional Law at Smith College and at Haverford College, and served on the Harvard Law Review. In 1991-92, she clerked for Judge Jon O. Newman, former chief judge of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
