Practice: Internal Investigations

Internal Investigations

Internal investigations can be a critical means for businesses to uncover and address potential issues of misconduct within their organizations.  Handled successfully, they can help to deter regulatory intervention and limit the company's exposure to lawsuits.  Paul, Weiss lawyers have the essential breadth and depth of experience necessary to ensure the effective handling of internal investigations in areas ranging from business torts and unfair competition to antitrust, securities, financial and environmental improprieties and foreign corrupt practices.  Our recent work on behalf of clients includes:
  • Served as counsel to the Special Review Committee of the Board of Fannie Mae in an independent internal investigation of the company’s accounting practices.
  • Acting as independent counsel to the Audit Committee of Adecco S.A. in a worldwide internal investigation into accounting issues. Adecco operates in more than 60 countries and is the world’s largest provider of temporary employees.
  • Issuing two reports stemming from internal investigations of Boeing.  The first concerned this major aircraft manufacturer’s ethics and compliance program with a focus on the handling of its competitors’ proprietary information.  The second involved the company's practices related to the hiring of government and former government employees, stemming from an incident involving the hiring of a former Air Force acquisition official.
