Entertainment

The Paul, Weiss Entertainment Department is the largest and most active of any general practice firm in New York. Our lawyers are involved in an extensive range of entertainment-related matters, including legitimate theater, motion pictures, music, television, and book and magazine publishing. In conjunction with our Intellectual Property Group, we are active in counseling many of our corporate and entertainment clients on a broad range of copyright, trademark and related intellectual property issues. Our lawyers also represent a broad range of individuals such as playwrights, actors, directors, choreographers, screenwriters, recording artists, songwriters, film editors, fine artists, and talent and literary agencies.

Broadway

We have been connected with virtually every Broadway and many off-Broadway shows that have opened in the last several years. We also represent some of the most important commercial and institutional theaters in the country, including the Shubert Organization, Lincoln Center Theater, The Manhattan Theatre Club, The New York Shakespeare Festival, Playwrights Horizons and The Goodman Theater of Chicago.

Film

In the film industry, we cover clients in the independent film world as well as on-screen and behind-the-camera talent working with the major Hollywood studios.

Music

In the music business, we represent a wide variety of corporate and individual clients. We previously served as general counsel to the National Music Publishers' Association and its licensing and collection agency, the Harry Fox Agency, and regularly advise several major international record companies and music publishers.

Publishing

Some of our publishing experience includes representation of Lucasfilm Ltd. in connection with all of the publishing agreements relating to the three new "Star Wars" motion pictures. We also represent Anita Hill, Gary Zukav, Julie Andrews and Robert Rubin with respect to their publications and other related media activities.
