As reported in The New York Times, The American Lawyer and other media outlets, a special committee of the board of the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) has retained litigation partner Ted Wells and Paul, Weiss.  The leadership and business practices of the union have recently come under scrutiny, due to claims of nepotism and conflicts of interest, and last week the NBPA received a subpoena for documents from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York. 

Paul, Weiss achieved a victory for client Deloitte & Touche LLP (D&T) and one of its partners in Nevada state court when Judge Elizabeth Gonzalez granted our motion for summary judgment in a defamation and tortious interference action. Plaintiffs were founders and former directors of D&T's client, Global Cash Access Holdings, Inc. (GCA). After coming into the possession of an FBI intelligence bulletin containing allegations that GCA and plaintiffs had committed serious illegal acts, D&T disclosed those allegations to the GCA audit committee and requested an investigation. Although, plaintiffs claimed that D&T's statements were defamatory, Judge Gonzales granted our motion, because D&T had a duty to make the statements at issue and had not acted with malice.
