Paul, Weiss achieved a victory for client Deloitte & Touche
LLP (D&T) and one of its partners in Nevada state court
when Judge Elizabeth Gonzalez granted our motion for summary
judgment in a defamation and tortious interference action.
Plaintiffs were founders and former directors of D&T's client,
Global Cash Access Holdings, Inc. (GCA). After coming into the
possession of an FBI intelligence bulletin containing allegations
that GCA and plaintiffs had committed serious illegal acts, D&T
disclosed those allegations to the GCA audit committee and
requested an investigation. Although, plaintiffs claimed that
D&T's statements were defamatory, Judge Gonzales granted our
motion, because D&T had a duty to make the statements at issue
and had not acted with malice.
