Minnesota Vikings Settle Threatened Litigation by Former Punter Chris Kluwe

Paul, Weiss client the Minnesota Vikings reached an out-of-court settlement that resolves the litigation threatened by former Vikings punter Chris Kluwe. Kluwe alleged in a January 2014 Deadspin article that the Vikings had released him from the team because of his support for marriage equality rather than any performance-related reasons. Under the terms of the settlement, the Vikings will donate an undisclosed sum of money to various charities focused on human rights and anti-hate issues, and continue to enhance their sensitivity training and workplace policies against discrimination and harassment. The Vikings will not pay Kluwe any money under the settlement.

As reported by ESPN, Kluwe has now acknowledged that there was no "systemic problem in the Vikings organization" and that the Vikings are "committed to being leaders on this issue in the NFL." Kluwe also has dropped his demand that the Vikings publish the independent investigation report that the team commissioned in response to the allegations made in the Deadspin article.

The Paul, Weiss team included, among others, litigation partner Ted Wells.
