Paul, Weiss Wins Unemployment Benefits Appeal for Pro Bono Client

Paul, Weiss won an appeal before the State of New York Unemployment Insurance Appeal Board, obtaining a decision that a pro bono client who lost his job was entitled to receive unemployment benefits. After our client lost his job and began receiving unemployment benefits, his employer contacted the Department of Labor claiming he had been fired for misconduct and had misrepresented the reason for his termination to the Department. Last fall, an administrative law judge sided with the employer and ruled our client ineligible for benefits. On appeal, the State of New York Unemployment Insurance Appeal Board overruled the decision of the administrative law judge, holding that there was no credible evidence to support it and that our client therefore was entitled to receive unemployment benefits.
