Paul, Weiss Obtains Asylum For Client from Uzbekistan

Paul, Weiss and Human Rights First obtained asylum for a woman from Uzbekistan who had been persecuted in her home country due to her Russian ethnicity and Russian Orthodox Christian religion. She also feared future persecution due to her participation with the non-governmental organization Population Services International. Paul, Weiss filed a memorandum of law in support of the woman's request for asylum and appeared on her behalf in removal proceedings before an immigration court in Arlington, Virginia. The government attorney told Paul, Weiss and Immigration Judge Wayne Iskra that, after reviewing Paul, Weiss's filing, Department of Homeland Security ("DHS") officials opted not to oppose the client's request for asylum. Judge Iskra granted asylum, and DHS waived its right to appeal.

The Paul, Weiss team included litigation partner Charles Davidow, associates Alexandra Clark, Brian Hart and Diana Valdivia.
