Robert D. Goldbaum

Robert D. Goldbaum is the head of the firm's Investment Management transactions practice.

Mr. Goldbaum regularly represents industry leaders in a wide range of asset management transactions, including Affiliated Managers Group (AMG), Apollo, Citigroup, Evercore Partners, Legg Mason, Moelis & Company, ORIX, Religare Enterprises and Virtus. His experience includes acquisitions and divestitures of investment managers, minority investments in alternative asset management firms, domestic and international asset management joint ventures, and portfolio management team lift-outs and spin-outs.

For example, Mr. Goldbaum recently represented AMG in its majority investment in Pantheon Ventures, Religare Enterprises in its majority investments in Northgate Capital and Landmark Partners, Evercore Partners in its minority investment in Atalanta Sosnoff, ORIX in its majority investment in Mariner Investment Group, its minority investment in Caspian Capital, and its “seed & stake” transaction with New Health Capital Partners, Moelis & Company in its acquisition of Gracie Credit, and Citigroup in its sale of its private equity fund-of-funds business to Lexington Partners and StepStone Group.

Before joining Paul, Weiss, Mr. Goldbaum co-founded HighView Investment Group with Ralph Schlosstein (co-founder and former President of BlackRock), an investment management firm targeting acquisitions of minority interests in independent alternative asset managers. Previously, he was the Senior Vice President for New Investments at AMG, which he joined after more than 14 years in private legal practice.

Mr. Goldbaum was a member of the Professional and Judicial Ethics Committee of the New York City Bar from 2003 to 2006 and a member of its Joint Subcommittee on Military Commissions in 2004. He is a frequent speaker on investment management industry panels, and his recent publications include “The Challenges for Banks and Their Investment Funds Under the ‘Volcker Rule.’”
