Roberta Kaplan Recognized by Columbia Law School for Her Advancement of Women in Law
Litigation partner Roberta A. Kaplan was honored as alumna of the year by the Columbia Law Women's Association for her achievements and dedication to the advancement of women in law. The annual dinner, named after the first woman lawyer, Myra Bradwell, recognizes women who exemplify Bradwell's pioneering spirit. Ms. Kaplan was recognized this year for her legal career, her work establishing mentoring, flex-time and child care programs for women lawyers, as well as her pro bono work in cases involving the constitutional rights of same-sex couples and their families, including her current representation of Edith Windsor, the plaintiff whose case persuaded President Obama and the Department of Justice to make the historic decision to cease defending the constitutionality of DOMA, or the Defense of Marriage Act.
