Paul, Weiss Hosts Conversation With Author and Immigrant Rights Advocate Efrén Olivares in Honor of Hispanic Heritage Month

On October 3, Paul, Weiss attorneys and staff in the U.S. offices enjoyed a conversation with Efrén Olivares, deputy legal director of the Immigrant Justice Project at Southern Poverty Law Center and author of the recently published memoir, My Boy Will Die of Sorrow. Moderated by ESG associate Lissette Duran, the associate leader of the firm’s Latinx Lawyers Network, the virtual conversation addressed the immigrant experience under the Trump administration policy of “Zero Tolerance”, which separated thousands of children from their families at the U.S.-Mexico border. Olivares discussed the history of and bias in immigration laws; cultural authenticity and competency; and his personal experiences growing up in a family separated by U.S. immigration laws. Olivares encouraged the audience to stay informed on immigration policy, and offered practical ways for the Paul, Weiss community to continue to seek justice and advocate for separated families.
