Description of Program and Relief

City of Atlanta, Georgia: Emergency Rental Assistance Grant for Residents

The City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office has partnered with United Way of Greater Atlanta, a nonprofit organization, to provide assistance to residential renters who have experienced a loss of income or are at risk of eviction or have had their utilities cut off due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Residential renters may receive a maximum of $3,000 per household which may be applied to past due rent, utilities, and security deposit assistance.

The application may be accessed here or by texting the keyword “C19ERA” to 898-211 to be directed to the application in English or Spanish.

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions

To apply, applicants must provide:

  • Photo identification;

  • Proof of income for each adult member of the household excluding dependents who are full-time students monthly paystubs, SSD/SSI/SS award letter, bank statements, unemployment, retirement, child support, letter from employer showing amount earned in period covered [if cash-based]);

  • Proof of residence (e.g., lease) with applicant’s name on the lease;

  • Proof of last two rental payments or landlord ledger of payments (e.g., bank draft, receipt, canceled check, etc.);

  • Proof of extenuating circumstances (e.g., separation/furloughed notice, check stubs showing a reduction of work hours from before and after the onset of the pandemic, verification of sick leave, copies of utility bills showing an increase due to the pandemic, copies of medical bills incurred after the onset of the pandemic, etc.); and

  • A current or past due bill (late or eviction notice, rent statement, gas, electric).

  • In addition, the applicant’s (and each adult member of the household excluding dependents) income prior to March 1, 2020 and current household income must not exceed and must remain within 60% of the Atlanta Family Median Monthly Income Limit for continued participation.
