Brad Karp Moderates ESG Discussion for the Leaders Council

Firm chairman Brad Karp moderated a discussion for the Leaders Council, “Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability,” with guest speakers John Coates, acting director of the Division of Corporation Finance of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and Kevin Stiroh, chair of the Supervision Climate Committee at the Federal Reserve Bank. They were joined by Michael Zuckert, general counsel of Silicon Valley Bank Financial Group.

The speakers, along with other members of the Leaders Council, discussed the need for useful, dependable and comparable ESG disclosure standards; what the SEC, the Federal Reserve and other organizations are doing in regards to ESG regulation and disclosure; and how these standards could be implemented in a way that does not bear extra burden on corporations. Chief Sustainability and ESG Officer Dave Curran and corporate partner Mark Bergman also joined the discussion.

The Leaders Council is a group of top legal professionals, comprised of law firm managing partners and corporate GCs, who convene for roundtable discussions a few times a year on substantive legal topics.
