Megan Raymond Discusses Gender Imbalance in PTAB Cases With Law360

March 2, 2022

Litigation counsel Megan Raymond appeared in a Law360 article, “Women Make Up Just 12% Of Attys In PTAB Cases,” published on March 2. Megan addressed the findings in a new PTAB Bar Association report, “Women at the PTAB: Post-Grant Proceedings,” that of the more than 2,000 firms and entities that have appeared before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board between the fall of 2012 and August 2021, women attorneys have made up just 12% of all attorney appearances.

Megan, who is a board member of the PTAB Bar Association, told Law360 that the report's findings are "disappointing, but not surprising."

Programs and initiatives that find ways for junior attorneys to participate more substantially in PTAB proceedings, to directly interact with clients and to take on speaking roles are some of the ways that firms can help solve the gender imbalance, she noted.

"The latest release of the report serves as a reminder that we have quite a ways to go, but provides some encouragement that our efforts are worth it and hopefully making a difference, albeit slowly," Megan added. "I hope the disappointing numbers in the report don't dissuade more women from trying out the practice, which I personally find quite rewarding."
