Aimee Brown Profiled in Bloomberg Law for Spirit Airlines Appellate Win

Litigation associate Aimee Brown was profiled in the May 25 issue of Bloomberg Law’s Litigation Newsletter for her role in a recent high-stakes appellate win for Spirit Airlines. The article discusses how Aimee prepared for her argument before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit on behalf of Spirit Airlines in an appeal over the allocation of peak-period flight authorizations at Newark Liberty airport. The court ruled in her client’s favor on May 21, and the opinion substantially tracked the arguments she made before the panel.
The article notes how Big Law associates are not often given the opportunity to argue high-stakes appeals, but that both Spirit and litigation partner Kannon Shanmugam, Aimee’s mentor, had no doubt she would perform well. Aimee “immediately inspires confidence in clients, and it was no surprise Spirit was willing to trust her with this argument,” Kannon said. With women in the minority of lawyers arguing before the D.C. Circuit, Aimee’s appearance before the court was all the more notable.
Preparation is “number one,” Aimee told Bloomberg Law, and striking the right tone is also key. “An appellate attorney is an advocate, but also a trusted adviser to the court,” she said.
