Paul, Weiss Honored as “Champion of Choice”

The National Institute for Reproductive Health recognized Paul,
Weiss as a "Champion of Choice." Paul, Weiss was honored for
its longstanding dedication to the expansion and protection of
civil and human rights and especially for its commitment to
reproductive freedom, as most recently demonstrated by the firm's
amicus brief to the Supreme Court on behalf of 113 women lawyers in
support of striking down legal restrictions on abortion access. The
brief was filed in Whole Woman's Health v.
Hellerstedt, which involves a challenge to HB2, a Texas
law that would shut down a majority of abortion providers in that
state.
As reported in The New York Times, the Washington
Post, The National Law Journal, Slate and
other media outlets, Paul, Weiss's brief recounted the stories of
women in the legal profession, including partners and associates at
private law firms, government attorneys, public defenders, members
of legal services organizations, general counsel to major
corporations and institutions, law professors and judges, all of
whom are united in their conviction that meaningful access to
reproductive choice allowed them to become, remain or thrive as
attorneys.
The Paul, Weiss team on the brief included litigation partner Allan
Arffa and associate Alexia Korberg. Allan accepted
the award on behalf of the firm and spoke at the luncheon where the
firm was honored.
