The Bridge Golf Foundation to Relocate to New Home

Paul, Weiss pro bono client The Bridge Golf Foundation, a nonprofit organization established to provide programming and mentoring for school-aged boys residing in New York City, will open its new headquarters in April 2016. The foundation, which has been temporarily housed at the Harlem YMCA, will relocate to a new home on West 117th Street, where high-tech golf simulators will be available to help kids practice their swing. Paul, Weiss attorneys have been assisting with incorporation, in establishing tax-exempt status, advising on various structural matters and negotiating the organization's lease. In addition, Paul, Weiss helped establish a wholly owned for-profit subsidiary of the foundation, The Bridge Golf Learning Center, that was created to provide the foundation with a permanent source of revenue.

Founded just over a year ago by Bob Rubin and Farrell Evans, The Bridge Golf Foundation is dedicated to helping young boys of color acquire and practice golf skills in order to make the sport more accessible and inclusive. Says Farrell, "We believe that golf is a great medium to close gaps in achievement, learning and opportunity for young men of color. Without the guidance of Paul, Weiss attorneys across several practice groups, it would not have been possible for us to create one of the most unique golf clubs in the world: a place for a diverse community of people united around their love of the game and care for the future of some of our most endangered young people."

The foundation has a working relationship with Eagle Academy and is currently working with junior high school students from that institution. As a part of a comprehensive approach to preparing the young men for college, the organization mixes a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) curriculum with golf instruction. The golf facility at the learning center will be open to the public when the after-school program is not in session.

The Paul, Weiss team included, among others, tax partner Richard Bronstein and associates Rodney Hill and Brian Grieve; corporate partner Robert Zochowski and associate Alison Gurr; employee benefits associate Lisa Krausz Eisenberg; and real estate partner Peter Fisch, counsel Barry Langman and associate Luke Murumba.
