Description of Program and Relief

Immunity from Civil Liability for Health Care Facilities, Health Care Professionals, & Health Care Volunteers

The Governor of Illinois has issued an executive order granting immunity from civil liability to health care facilities, health care professionals, and health care volunteers for any injury or death that occurred when they were engaged in the course of rendering assistance to the State by providing health care services in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Health care facilities and health care professionals will not be immune if it is established that the injury or death was caused by gross negligence or willful misconduct. Health care volunteers will not be immune if it is established that the injury or death was caused by willful misconduct.
