Description of Program and Relief

Parental and Family Medical Leave Act

The Rhode Island Parental and Family Medical Leave Act requires that employers of 50 or more employees grant an unpaid leave of absence, upon the request of an eligible employee, for 13 consecutive weeks in any two calendar years, under certain conditions, with the possibility that part or all of it is paid if applicants qualify for the Temporary Caregiver Insurance Program (“TCI”) or “Temporary Disability Program (“TDI”). Rhode Island has stated that individuals impacted by COVID-19 may consider applying for this benefit, subject to the ordinary requirements.
