Description of Program and Relief
Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)–POWER Work Program and POWER Caretaker Relative Program
TANF provides temporary cash assistance for families in need. In Wyoming, there are two types: the POWER Work program and the POWER Caretaker Program. Although no specific guidance has issued with respect to COVID-19, affected families may qualify if they meet eligibility requirements (below).
The POWER Work program provides free child support assistance and helps individuals find employment or other financial stability based on each individual’s needs.
The POWER Caretaker Program provides free child support assistance and cash assistance to family members (i.e. grandparents, aunts or uncles) who are primary caregivers to children who do not live in the same home.

Eligibility Requirements/Restrictions
Applicants must be (1) residents of Wyoming (2) meet citizenship and alien status requirements and (3) responsible for the daily care of a child under the age of 18. In addition, applicants must meet certain income requirements and must have less than $5,000 in resources. With respect to the POWER Caretaker Program, this requirement refers to the income and resource requirements of the child. Resources include checking and savings accounts, income producing property, stocks, bonds, and mutual funds.
Individuals eligible for the TANF/POWER program are required to cooperate with Child Support, attend all required appointments and engage in required POWER Work Program activities geared to improve the individual’s specific situation (i.e., resume and application planning, healthy parenting, etc.).
