An associate in the Litigation Department, Elana Beale focuses her practice on a wide variety of commercial litigation matters, white-collar investigations and regulatory defense matters for high-profile clients across a variety of industries. She has significant experience litigating in both federal and state court, including breach of contract, data breach, fraud, antitrust and intellectual property disputes. Elana also handles complex internal investigations for a range of clients. She regularly defends clients in inquiries and investigations by the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Department of Justice, and other federal and state agencies. She has advised clients on topics including cybersecurity, insider trading risk, securities fraud, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, employment matters and complex commercial transactions.
Elana maintains an active pro bono practice, representing a variety of indigent clients in federal and state courts, in both civil rights and criminal cases. She has successfully argued before both the New York State Supreme Court's trial and appellate divisions in a child maltreatment action. Elana also played an integral role in negotiating a settlement on behalf of more than 400,000 public housing residents and guests in the class-action discriminatory policing matter, Davis v. City of New York, along with co-counsel at NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the Legal Aid Society, and appeared before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York in support of the settlement.
