Roberto Finzi and Richard Tarlowe Recognized by The American Lawyer for Achieving “Remarkable” Outcome in White Collar Case

Litigation partners Roberto Finzi and Richard Tarlowe were recognized by The American Lawyer for achieving a “remarkable” turnaround for our client Anilesh “Neil” Ahuja, the founder and former CEO of hedge fund Premium Point Investments.

Ahuja faced a 50-month sentence after a federal jury convicted him and a colleague on securities fraud charges following a six-week trial in 2019. But after the Paul, Weiss defense team used a FOIA request to surface evidence that a federal prosecutor suggested revisions to the plea allocutions of government cooperators in their case, the publication notes in its April 29 “Litigation Daily” column, the judge granted our lawyers’ request for a new trial late last year, recognizing the heroic efforts of the defense team. And on April 22, she signed off on a rare 11(c)(1)(C) plea agreement binding her to time-served sentences agreed upon by the parties. “With the initial surrender dates for the defendants pushed back due to the pandemic, the outcome means that neither served any prison time,” Am Law notes.

The Paul, Weiss team also included litigation associates David Friedman, Lina Dagnew, Sofia Reive and Chloe Lewis.
