Litigation partner David Kessler and counsel Ben Klein will participate in a virtual panel, “Pig Butchering and Third-Party Risk: Navigating the Legal Landscape of Tech-Enabled Fraud,” hosted by the Practising Law Institute. The program will provide a comprehensive overview of “pig-butchering” schemes, a type of financial fraud in which perpetrators gain the trust of victims over time and then defraud them, often using the U.S. banking system and cryptocurrencies. The schemes are creating increased risks for the intermediaries used to facilitate them, such as financial institutions, cryptocurrency exchanges, social media companies and technology providers. The panel will also discuss the evolving enforcement actions of the U.S. Department of Justice and other government actors, emerging case law about private sector actors who are suing intermediary companies, and risk mitigation strategies.

The panel will take place on June 24 at 3 p.m. ET.
