Paul, Weiss was one of first foreign law firms to establish an office in mainland China, opening in Beijing in 1981. Today, the office is comprised of multinational, Western-trained, Chinese-speaking legal practitioners with deep expertise in U.S. and Chinese international business transactions.
The Beijing team focuses on representing international and Chinese clients in matters involving mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital, outbound investments, foreign direct investments, capital markets, corporate and project finance, restructuring and internal investigations (including investigations under the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act). The office has played a role in a number of precedent-setting and innovative transactions in and relating to China. Lawyers in the team have experience across a multitude of industries, including agriculture, automotive, broadcasting, communications, consumer products, education, energy and renewable energy, Internet, media and technology, financial services, manufacturing, online games, luxury goods, pharmaceuticals and real estate.
Lawyers in the Beijing office are fully proficient in written Chinese and draft legal documents in both Chinese and English. Our lawyers also publish and speak frequently on China-related legal topics. The office works closely with the firm’s Hong Kong office and is supported by our other offices globally.
