An associate in the Restructuring Department, Shafaq Hasan represents debtors, equity owners, creditor groups and distressed investors in a broad range of restructuring matters, including chapter 11 cases, out-of-court restructurings, bankruptcy-related acquisitions and cross-border matters.

EXPERIENCE

Shafaq’s representative experience includes:

  • National CineMedia, the largest movie theater advertising business in North America, in its successful chapter 11 case filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Southern District of Texas
  • Madison Square Boys & Girls Club, a not-for-profit organization, in its successful chapter 11 restructuring addressing claims arising under the New York Child Victims Act
  • An ad hoc investor group of first lien lenders of Avaya Holdings Corp., a global leader in communication and collaboration solutions, in connection with the company’s successful prepackaged chapter 11 plan, which reduced Avaya’s total debt by more than 75% from approximately $3.4 billion to approximately $800 million
  • Texas Capital Bank as one of the largest prepetition lenders and as debtor-in-possession lender in the chapter 11 cases of Reverse Mortgage Funding LLC, a Bloomfield, New Jersey-based originator and servicer of reverse mortgage loans
  • An ad hoc group of senior secured creditors of Oro Negro, a Mexican offshore drilling company, in a chapter 15 proceeding in the Southern District of New York
  • Revlon, a leading global beauty company, and certain of its subsidiaries in their successful chapter 11 cases in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York

In addition, Shafaq’s debtor-side experience includes representations of Boy Scouts of America and Amsterdam House Continuing Care Retirement Community.
