A partner in the Investment Funds Group, Matthew is Co-Head of North American Investment Funds. Matthew focuses his practice on the formation and operation of a wide variety of private investment funds, including private equity funds, credit funds, infrastructure funds, hybrid funds and real estate funds. He also has significant experience in the formation of secondaries platforms and continuation vehicles, and he regularly represents private funds in connection with co-investments and direct investments in private equity, infrastructure, real estate and other transactions. Matthew advises leading global investment firms in their investment management M&A and other strategic transactions, including acquisitions and strategic partnership arrangements. He has substantial experience in establishing customized private investment funds with respect to a range of U.S. and non-U.S. investors and advises on management company “upper tier” arrangements.
Matthew has been widely recognized by leading industry publications and awards. Law360 named him an “MVP” for Fund Formation in 2025, having previously recognized him with the same honor in 2023 and as a “Rising Star” in that category in 2021. Since 2020, Chambers USA has consistently ranked Matthew as a leading lawyer for private equity fund formation, and The Legal 500 has recognized him as a “Recommended Lawyer” in private equity funds over the same period. He was also recognized by the Financial Times in its 2021 Innovative Lawyers Report for “Innovation in Sustainability and ESG,” reflecting his notable experience advising on ESG-focused funds and products.
