Carmen Lu Discusses Q1 2026 Shareholder Activism Trends in Agenda

Corporate partner Carmen Lu spoke with Agenda about the current shareholder activism climate, noting that shortened timelines to settlement and other strategic considerations may have resulted in fewer settlements in Q1 2026 than in previous years, despite a slight overall rise in activist campaigns.

In “Settlements Slump and Activists Take Fewer Board Seats in First Quarter,” published on April 27, Carmen noted that “the appetite for fights is still low, and there is understanding on both ends that a settlement is preferable." She added that the trend of activists taking fewer board seats in Q1 2026 could indicate that companies are recognizing that settling earlier can be tactically advantageous. “You don't want the activists to be able to get more leverage, so you settle early," she noted.
