Litigation associate Harut Minasian co-led a survey exploring how federal judges use artificial intelligence. The survey, “Artificial Intelligence in Federal Courts: A Random-Sample Survey of Judges,” was led by Northwestern University in collaboration with the New York City Bar Association Presidential Task Force on Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies Subcommittee on AI and the Judiciary, which Harut co-chairs.
Released for the Sedona Conference Journal on March 30, the survey found that more than 60% of responding judges have used one or more AI tools in their work, though only 22.4% reported “weekly” or “daily” usage. Despite many judges exploring the use of AI in their own work, 38% of responding judges either prohibit or discourage the use of AI in their chambers.
