Jessica Benvenisty Recognized in The American Lawyer for Litigation Victory for Madison Square Garden in Dispute With Charles Oakley

Litigation partner Jessica Benvenisty was recognized in The American Lawyer’s “Litigation Daily” column for securing summary judgment on behalf of Madison Square Garden in a nine-year lawsuit brought by former New York Knicks star Charles Oakley. Oakley sued in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York after he was removed from the Garden during a February 2017 Knicks game where video captured him scuffling with security personnel and police officers. The court granted summary judgment to MSG, finding that a “tidal wave of evidence” showed Oakley was the aggressor. The court also upheld a sanctions award of more than $640,000 against Oakley for spoliation of evidence after all of his text messages from before February 2022 were deleted.
