Global Artificial Intelligence Group Co-Chair Katherine Forrest published an expert Q&A in Practical Law The Journal exploring the legal, ethical and practical challenges of judicial use of artificial intelligence. In “Judicial Use of AI: Ethical Issues,” published on January 1, Katherine notes that although AI use could bring many positive changes to the practice of law, judges must take precautions against inaccuracies, biases and overreliance.
“As AI tools evolve — enabling judges to more quickly generate predictive outcomes for fact patterns and to access databases of what are believed to be precedent — judges must adhere to their independent, human discretion,” she says.
