Artificial Intelligence Group Co-Chair Katherine Forrest’s latest Technology Today column, “A Model Too Powerful to Release,” appeared in the April 22 issue of the New York Law Journal. In the article, Katherine discusses the ramifications for the legal and compliance community of Anthropic’s powerful new AI model, Claude Mythos Preview, which Anthropic says has found “high-severity vulnerabilities” in every major operating system and web browser. Katherine notes that Mythos may not be unique, that other models with similar capabilities may have already been developed overseas, and that the model developers’ concerns must be taken to heart. “This means that the time we have known may come, when model users and courts are faced with difficult questions of moral status, may be closer than we think,” she writes. “We need a framework for how to deal with that now.”
