A counsel in the Corporate Department, Chikara focuses his practice on cross-border mergers and acquisitions and transactions in the international capital markets. He has advised clients on a range of matters relating to cross-border acquisitions, particularly in the financial services sector, and initial public offerings and 144A/Reg S offerings.
Prior to joining Paul, Weiss, Chikara worked as in-house legal counsel at a major global financial institution, handling strategic initiatives undertaken by the financial institution and capital market transactions. Chikara was also responsible for the day-to-day relationship with the Japan Financial Services Agency with respect to the global financial institution.
Prior to working as in-house legal counsel, he worked at a leading U.S. law firm, based in its New York and Tokyo offices, where his experience included the direct representation of Japanese issuers and underwriters on global offerings and cross-border acquisitions by Japanese and U.S. companies.
Having been raised in both Japan and the United States, Chikara is bilingual and at home in both cultures. He is registered as a gaikokuho jimu bengoshi in Japan.
