Head of European Leveraged Finance and a member of the Corporate Department, Taner Hassan advises on a broad range of financings across Europe, including buyout and infrastructure financings. Taner acts for international and domestic private equity firms, financial sponsors and public companies on a wide range of financing transactions, including leveraged buyouts, acquisitions and sales, takeovers, mergers, joint ventures, IPOs, restructurings and refinancings. He also advises portfolio companies on a wide variety of important financing matters, and brings particular experience in the infrastructure, energy, health care and technology sectors. He also advises on sustainability-linked finance transactions.

Taner has handled many of the market’s most significant international and domestic financing deals, including involving Europe, the United States, Asia and emerging markets. Clients interviewed by Chambers UK noted that Taner is “extremely commercial,” “highly experienced and has great rapport with his clients,” and is able to “explain the key commercial points in a distinctive manner that allows us to find solutions quickly.” Taner is a Leading Individual for Acquisition Finance in The Legal 500 UK, and is recognized for his work in Bank Lending: Investment Grade Debt and Syndicated Loans.

EXPERIENCE

Taner’s notable representations have included:

  • EQT Equity in the financing of its acquisition of SPT Labtech, manufacturer of instruments for life sciences research
  • Cinven in:
    • the financing of its acquisition of a majority stake of Restaurant Brands Iberia, the largest transaction in the Spanish restaurant industry to date
    • its acquisition of Barentz, a global specialty ingredients distributor, and its subsequent financing of the acquisition of the Maroon Group
  • EQT Infrastructure in:
    • its refinancing of the Deutsche Glasfaser fibre business
    • the financing of its acquisition of a majority stake in SK Shieldus, a leading South Korean integrated security operator
    • the financing of its acquisition of Trescal, a global leader in calibration laboratories, from OMERS
    • its sale of DELTA Fiber, a leading owner and operator of fiber-to-the-home telecom infrastructure in the Netherlands, to a consortium including Stonepeak
  • Eroski on its refinancing of senior debt, including the issuance of EUR€500 million senior secured bonds
  • Lumos in its $1.1 billion sustainability-linked infrastructure debt financing, the first project finance-style fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) infrastructure financing in the U.S. for an existing and integrated FTTH platform, and the first U.S. FTTH sustainability-linked financing
  • Solarpack Corporación Teconólogica S.A.U., a Spanish solar developer and independent power producer, in its sustainability-linked financing facility
