Cyber incidents and data breaches can trigger serious and lasting reputational, legal and business harm. We help clients manage and respond to fast-moving cyber crisis situations, while advising them on effective, proactive strategies to reduce risk by preparing for a cyber incident before it occurs.

Our Practice

With the increasing number and potentially catastrophic impact of cyber attacks, data protection is increasingly top of mind among multinational corporations, financial institutions and professional services firms. We can advise on compliance with evolving cyber and information security standards; cybersecurity information sharing; cyber incident response, including coordinating responses to regulatory and criminal investigations; and the legal management of a full-blown cyber or data breach incident.

High-level Experience: Among others, our practice includes a former Secretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, who coordinated cyber response efforts for the U.S. government and the nation; a former senior member of the Special Counsel’s Office, who led the team investigating Russian cyber, social media and intelligence efforts to influence the 2016 presidential election; a former Treasury Department deputy general counsel with responsibility for data protection and cybersecurity matters affecting the financial sector; a former chief of the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, who supervised complex fraud and cybercrime, among other areas; and a former Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York who served as Chief of the Complex Frauds and Cybercrime Unit, among others.

Managing Crisis Situations: The Cybersecurity & Data Protection practice draws on our team’s deep experience not only in handling cybersecurity matters, but in managing corporate crisis situations, handling significant government and regulatory investigations and advising on critical governance issues. We are particularly adept at helping clients mitigate the reputational and legal harms posed by cyber and data breach incidents.

Proactive Advisors: As thought leaders in this area, we help clients stay informed and ahead of evolving regulatory expectations and information security standards; we issue frequent and timely memoranda and alerts on regulatory and enforcement trends related to cyber and information security.
