September 29, 2023

Litigation partner Katherine Forrest spoke with the New York Law Journal about her role in launching Paul, Weiss’s new Digital Technology Group, for which she was awarded the NYLJ’s 2023 “Innovation Award.”

In the Q+A, Katherine discusses how writing her latest book on the construction of ethical systems in the digital environment informed the creation of the Digital Technology Group; the challenges she faced in attracting attention to issues of AI and the law before the widespread use of ChatGPT; and her advice to more junior lawyers who want to advance their own innovative ideas.

“If you’re looking to carve out a legal career on the leading edge of innovation, AI is the place to be today,” Katherine says. “Whatever area you are interested in learning about and becoming conversant in, an understanding of how AI applies to the law will be extraordinarily useful and can set you apart from your peers who don’t put in the time to learn in this area.”
