John Carlin Calls New Executive Order Curbing U.S. Investments in China With BNN Bloomberg a Cautious First Step

Cybersecurity & Data Protection Co-Chair John Carlin spoke with BNN Bloomberg about President Biden’s new executive order barring certain U.S. investments in China. In “American VCs Fought Back Strict Biden Rules on China Investments. But More May Be Coming,” published on August 9, John notes that rather than barring all investment in Chinese technology, the order applies only to investments in certain sensitive technologies that could be used in a military or surveillance context. Calling the order a “cautious first step” that was narrower than anticipated, John notes that the space-related sector, which is not subject to the rule, is likely to be subject to future scrutiny.
