The American Lawyer Names Andrew Gordon and Jaren Janghorbani “Litigators of the Week” Runners-Up for Symbiont Trial Win

Litigation partners Andrew Gordon and Jaren Janghorbani were named “Litigators of the Week” runners-up by The American Lawyer for their trial win for Symbiont.io Inc. in its lawsuit against Ipreo Holdings and IHS Markit Ltd.

The lawsuit arose out of the defendants’ bad-faith efforts to undermine Synaps Loans, a joint venture between Symbiont and Ipreo intended to leverage blockchain technology in the syndicated loan market. Symbiont challenged the 2018 acquisition of Ipreo by IHS Markit—Synaps’ main competitor—as a violation of the broad non-compete provision contained in Synaps’ joint venture agreement.

Following a four-day trial held remotely in December 2020, Vice Chancellor J. Travis Laster of the Delaware Court of Chancery sided with Symbiont on substantially all issues and awarded $142 million in damages to the joint venture, which Symbiont half-owns.
