Jaren Janghorbani Discusses Mootness Fees Win in Reuters

Litigation partner Jaren Janghorbani was quoted in an article, “No fees for you! N.Y. judge rejects lawyers’ $250K request in M&A suit,” published in Reuters. The article discusses Jaren’s recent success in securing the dismissal of a shareholder lawsuit and related motion for attorneys’ fees brought in connection with Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of our client, Nuance Communications, Inc., and the impact that decision may have on similar suits alleging deficient deal disclosures and seeking what are known as “mootness fees.”

“There has been an outpouring of joy from the defense bar,” Jaren says. “Any decision we get that creates a disincentive for the plaintiffs bar is a big victory.”

[Nuance] decided to take a stand against the fee demand “because the only way these cases stop is if we test the claims in court,” she adds.
