Garmin Wins Las Vegas Jury Trial in Patent Case

Paul, Weiss client Garmin, the world's leading manufacturer of GPS products, obtained a complete patent defense victory over non-practicing entity Silver State Intellectual Technologies. Silver State accused 150 of Garmin's popular personal navigation devices of infringing four patents issued between 2009 and 2010 relating to features in navigation systems, demanding $30 million in damages. At the conclusion of an eight-day trial, an eight-person Las Vegas jury found that all of the asserted patent claims were invalid and did not award any damages. The jury also concluded that Garmin did not infringe two of the four patents, which together accounted for over two-thirds of the requested damages.

The Paul, Weiss trial team consisted of litigation partner Nicholas Groombridge.
