Kannon Shanmugam Featured on “How I Lawyer” Podcast

Litigation partner Kannon Shanmugam was interviewed on the May 11 episode of “How I Lawyer,” a podcast hosted by Georgetown Law School Professor Jonah Perlin. Kannon discussed his path to appellate and Supreme Court advocacy, the role that his clerkships played in his approach to advocacy, and how he prepares for and conducts oral argument.
Kannon also discussed how to stand out both as a young associate and as a more senior lawyer. “What differentiates the top people is attitude more than anything else. It’s being willing to work hard and to put in the extra effort to make draft briefs not just good but absolutely perfect,” he said. “I think having an enthusiastic attitude goes a long way. Having an interest in not just the specific project that you’ve been given, but an interest in learning about the case as a whole and learning about the client, about the industry—all those things are really important.”
