Janus Schutte Recognized as White Collar Rising Star in Bloomberg Law’s “They’ve Got Next” Series

Litigation counsel Janus Schutte was featured in Bloomberg Law’s latest “They’ve Got Next” series as one of the five young lawyers to know in the world of white collar. The article highlights Janus’s work, alongside a Paul, Weiss team, on a widely covered investigative report released last July addressing Credit Suisse’s relationship with Archegos Capital Management, a hedge fund that collapsed in March 2021, causing the bank to lose $5.5 billion.

Janus, who joined the firm in the wake of the financial crisis, a “pivotal time,” he notes, quickly learned how to navigate complex financial issues. Investigative skills he honed early on, such as interviewing witnesses, proved critical to his work on the Credit Suisse and other matters. “It’s really about trying to develop that rapport with the witness and understand their perspective and their areas of knowledge—and show that you understand it, too,” he says. “You don’t want to go into an interview without that basis of knowledge, because otherwise you’re not going to have a successful interview to get the information that you need to really develop the investigation.”
