Paul, Weiss Team Recognized With Sanctuary for Families’ Above & Beyond Pro Bono Achievement Award

The Paul, Weiss team behind the unanimous Supreme Court victory in Golan v. Saada was recognized with Sanctuary for Families’ 2022 Above & Beyond Pro Bono Achievement Award. Sanctuary for Families is a New York City-based nonprofit organization dedicated to aiding victims of domestic violence and their children.
In Golan, our client sought to reverse an order compelling her to return her child to Italy—where her husband resides—to await custody proceedings, despite the documented grave risk of harm to the child. The Supreme Court’s decision broadened lower courts’ discretion to refuse return after a grave risk determination in international child custody disputes under the Hague Convention.
